As I wrote in my previous article about eSIM technology, Nomad is one of many companies offering data plans for travellers or anyone travelling abroad. They even have two SMS products. In this article, I will provide a detailed guide on creating a new account, Nomad’s plans, and how to choose and buy an eSIM. And most importantly, how to start using it.

Use this link to access the Nomad webpage. You can get $3 off on your first eSIM using my Nomad code LEOS92MM.
Account Creation
After opening the Nomad webpage, you can create a new account or browse the products. If you want to create an account, click “Log In / Sign Up”, as shown in the image below.
The following form will appear. Since you are going to create a new account, you have four options to choose from:
- Fill out the form: You must enter your first name, last name, email address and password
- Apple: You can use an existing Apple account
- Facebook: You can use an existing Facebook account
- Google: You can use an existing Google / Gmail account
After filling out the form, click on “Sign up”. You will then receive a verification code by email. When I tried to create an account using this method, the system gave me an error saying that the given code was invalid. That’s why I tried another approach.
For the second attempt to create an account, I used Google / Gmail. After clicking the icon and confirming the account I wanted to use, I didn’t have to provide other information. The system automatically created an account for me.
Choose the option most suits you and click the corresponding icon (Apple, Facebook, Google). The Nomad site will automatically create an account for you with the same first and last name.
We can check the data plans now that the account has been successfully created.
Plan types
Nomad offers two types of products: data and SMS. For now, SMS can only be used in Canada and the US.
In this blog post, I will focus on data products. In case you want to make phone calls or send text messages, it will not work. If you need these services, look at the offer of other companies.
All products are displayed after clicking on “Shop Plans”.
Nomad offers data packages for individual countries and various regions. If you plan to visit several countries within the same area, focusing on regional data plans is better.
For example, the regional “Middle East” plan offers four data packages from 1 GB to 10 GB. After clicking on “Country List”, a list of countries will be displayed: Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the Emirates.
Buying a data plan
I am going to Germany soon, so I decided to buy and try their product. Several variants on offer differed in the size of the offered data from 1GB to 20GB and the validity period of 15 or 30 days. After choosing the combination that suits you best, click on “Checkout”.
The Nomad page prompts you to log in or create a new account. Don’t forget to enter LEOS92MM in the “Add Promo Code” field and click “Redeem”. Check if the discount code has been applied and the price has been reduced by $3.
Then choose the way you want to pay, either by credit/debit card (Card) or PayPal. Some banks charge fees for payments in foreign currency. The same applies to PayPal. Therefore, compare what is a better option for you.
Downloading a data plan
The procedure for installing the Nomad eSIM profile will be sent to you by email after payment. The process varies by device type. iPhones and Android phones have different menus in Settings. Therefore, you must carefully read the instructions sent by Nomad via email or click on “Manage” and then “Manage Plans”. All purchased flat rates will be displayed. Click on “Installation Instruction” and follow the instructions.
During the installation process is essential:
- Have a stable internet connection.
- Do not interrupt the installation process. In case of problems, the eSIM cannot be restored.
- Do not remove the eSIM plan because the eSIM can only be installed once.
Activation
Unlike competitors, you must activate your Nomad eSIM data plan before travelling. You have 30 days for activation from the purchase day.
The plan will activate automatically once your phone registers to the mobile network.
All done now
I hope this guide helped you navigate the Nomad website and choose the right package for your upcoming vacation. If you have other questions, add them in the comments.
