At the time of my trip, Airalo offered six Eurolink eSIM products. Each product provided a different amount of mobile data, ranging from 1GB for $5 (approximately £3.8) to 100GB for $185 (approximately £141). The validity of the packages ranged from 7 to 180 days.

I recommend comparing prices in US dollars and Euros/Pounds directly on the Airalo site, as there may be a difference for higher amounts. Also, remember that many banks charge different fees, so it’s important to compare all options and see if buying the eSIMs in USD or your local currency is cheaper.

What Phones Support eSIM?

With this technology’s growing popularity, more and more phones and tablets are on the market that support it. When buying a phone, you should ask the seller if the phone supports eSIM. Airalo regularly updates the list of supported devices, so it is better to check their official support page.

Mobile Operators in Hungary and Connection Type

Hungary has three mobile operators: T-Mobile (Telekom), Telenor (Yettel), and Vodafone. It’s important to note that Airalo Eurolink eSIM can be used in Telenor (Yettel) and T-Mobile networks (you should always check the description of the eSIM). To ensure there is coverage in your area, you can visit nperf.com and check before making the purchase.

My Data Plan

I bought an Airalo Eurolink eSIM data plan with 3 GB of data and a validity period of 7 days. The price of the package was $13 (approximately £10, €12). However, you can get this eSIM cheaper using one of my discount codes.

Network registration

After activating the Airalo Eurolink eSIM in my phone’s settings, it took just a few seconds for the eSIM to connect to the Yettel (Telenor) network. Sometimes, it displayed Yettel and other times, it showed Telenor, but it was the same mobile operator.

Once I turned on mobile data, I noticed that I had lost the signal, and a message popped up indicating that only emergency calls could be made. After about five minutes, the eSIM successfully reconnected to the network. Surprisingly, the letter E appeared, indicating a 2G network. Fortunately, it quickly switched to 4G. Then, the arrows next to 4G appeared and started flashing in both directions, indicating that the data connection was successfully established.

Functionality

While waiting at the airport, I passed the time by watching various videos on YouTube and scrolling through posts from friends on Instagram. I also searched for information on the Internet and played games on my Nintendo Switch, which I connected to the Internet using my phone’s tethering feature.

I even noticed the 5G icon briefly appearing on my phone before it switched to the LTE network. However, the speeds remained excellent, so it didn’t make much difference.

Speed

I recently conducted a speed test on the Airalo Eurolink eSIM to measure its downlink and uplink speeds. The download speed peaked at an impressive 98.8 Mbps. This test utilised approximately 125 MB of data.

During my usage, the Airalo Eurolink eSIM performed flawlessly, even in a crowded airport where many others were also using the Internet. I encountered no issues with video streaming, web page loading, or gaming. The transfer speeds were particularly impressive, reaching nearly 100 Mbps.

Based on my experience, I wholeheartedly recommend this product due to its seamless performance and reliability.
